Electromagnetic Materials Research
High-performance electromagnetic materials play a vital role in achieving a carbon-neutral society, advancing the electrification of automobiles demanded by CASE, and further developing the information society. We are committed to developing new electromagnetic materials with higher performance and applied products using such advanced materials.
Development Case
Hot-deformed magnets (NeFeB magnets)
Our hot-deformed magnets are made by neodymium-iron-boron(NdFeB) powder produced by rapid quenching method and formed by hot-deformation process.
The nano-crystalized anisotropic microstructure enables the elimination of heavy rare-earth elements. Furthermore, our proprietary hot-deformation technology provides high flexibility both in shape and orientation.
The manufacturing process eliminates the need for long-duration and high-temperature aging treatment. Moreover, our net-shape processing technology minimizes material loss during machining. These advantages contribute to a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions in the production of hot-deformed magnets compared to our sintered magnets.
Sm-Fe-N Magnetic Powder
We are developing Sm-Fe-N magnetic powders with a nanocrystalline microstructure, which is produced by a rapid-quenching method, followed by nitriding. Isotropic bonded magnets made by resin bonding of Sm-Fe-N magnetic powders exhibit world-leading magnetic properties, along with excellent corrosion resistance and thermal stability.
As of April 2023, the Daido Group is the sole manufacturer capable of producing isotropic Sm-Fe-N bonded magnets on a large scale (according to our research).
Motor Design and Evaluation Technology
We have refined magnetic field analysis technology with the aim of proposing effective utilization of our magnetic materials.
In addition to magnetic field analysis, it can be combined with thermal, electrical circuit, and vibration evaluations, making it suitable for analyzing motors, reactors, magnetizing yokes, and induction heating systems.
Soft Magnetic Powder for Powder Magnetic Cores
Soft magnetic powder produced using Daido’s unique atomizing technology is insulated using our proprietary insulation coating treatment. Formed by pressing this insulation-coated soft magnetic powder, powder magnetic cores are used in a wide range of applications including xEVs, solar power reactors, and motor cores, and their applications are expanding beyond traditional switching power supply choke coils.
Soft Magnetic Foil (STARPAS®)
We have developed STARPAS®, a Permalloy foil that boasts world-leading noise suppression performance. STARPAS® is designed to reduce the increasing electromagnetic noise resulting from high-frequency trends in communications and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, as well as the electrification of automobiles and the spread of autonomous driving.
Our extremely thin permalloy foil features excellent durability and high design flexibility, allowing it to be shaped into various forms, thus contributing to weight reduction and the thinning of devices used in electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology.
Anode Materials for Li-ion Batteries
We are developing a next-generation anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, widely used in electric vehicles and smartphones. Our anode material incorporates a silicon-alloy powder that achieves over five times the capacity of conventional graphite-based anodes. This advancement enables enhanced energy density, contributing to longer operating durations in electric vehicles and portable electronics.
Sputtering Target/STARMESH®
STARMESH® Series consists of high-performance sputtering target materials engineered for metal-mesh blackening films. These targets combine ultra-low reflectance with excellent durability, ensuring superior optical performance and long-term reliability.
